With a “day off” in Salary Bay we decided we would take the opportunity to try to see some whales.

In the winter the humpback whales will come to Madagascar to have their young. The first ones were seen a few days ago, so we were offered the chance to see if we could find some.

So, after breakfast we all climbed into the boat and off we went.

Wading to the boat!

We did see one plume not far away and arrived just in time to see the dorsal fin disappearing under the water. No time for photos! Unfortunately, despite a couple of hours motoring around, that was all we saw as far as whales go. We did see lots of amazing fishing boats though and one man snorkelling from his boat who caught an octopus.

Back at the hotel we had a lovely lunch ( gf pizza cooked in a real brick oven)

follow by a quick dip in the sea (warmer than the swimming pool).

David actually swimming!

We then enjoyed a lazy afternoon on the terrace, enjoying the views and catching up with this blog!

Another lovely evening meal of fish soup and chop suey followed by a gorgeous homemade eclair or icecream for David. More fantastic sunsets before bed.

This is the little model of a zebu signifying male in Madagascar.
