Thursday 22nd June

Up at 5.45 to get early breakfast and leave to be in the mid convoy that the gendarmes organise to protect us. There were apparently 15 cars in our convoy.

Another fun drive !

We loaded up quickly as we had already loaded our big bags the night before. In true Malagashi style the gendarme prevented the convoy from moving until the drivers had given him a little bribe…! Then off we go over the first ferry.

That was where we heard we couldn’t leave till the gendarmes said the whole convoy was ready!
Sunrise on the ferry

We then started another challenging 4.5 hour track to Belo sur Tsiribihina. Quick coffee stop for the driver and we arrived on time to pick up our pre ordered picnics from the lovely resto and hop onto a ferry. I had time to get my first coconut drink at 2000 Ar.

Drivers Coffee stop!
Working out how to drink it!
Picnic time on the second ferry which was very hot and David had forgotten his hat! We eventually climbed back in the car as it was an hour crossing.
Next quick coffee break!

And through baobab land!

No shoes so we didn’t go right up!
Lovers Baobab !

I bought a beatiful little wooden model which has the name of the artist on it for 25,000 Ar.

Finally arrived at destination for sunset!
Sunset at Baobab Alley.
We met people we had been in hotel last night with!
Photos don’t do it justice!
A beautiful moment.

And off to Morandava which was another hour drive so we arrived around 6.45 at sun beach hotel tired, dusty but after another beautiful day.

A busy noisy little town where the driver spotted a cashpoint with no queue so we stopped!

Very welcome meal of smoked swordfish, garlic kingprawns and banana and ice-cream. Our first ice-cream which was nice as we didn’t have time to try the baobab ice-cream at baobab alley. Unfortunately it was Keith’s turn not to eat tonight as he wasn’t feeling too good.
