Wentworth Castle gardens, history tour

Very interesting history tour of Wentworth Castle gardens. New to the National Trust in 2019. Varied gardens with traditional baroque, Union Jack, rhododendron gardens and many more. Unusual sun monument for its time  to lady Mary Wortley Montague in 1720 for introducing the inoculation of smallpox after seeing it done in Turkey, having had the disease herself and become very scarred. Worth a visit especially if there is a tour!

Lady Mary never went to Wentworth but met Thomas who then innoculated his children.

Lady Lucy walk, trees only 100 years old!

Stainsborough castle

Beautiful recently restored green house about 100 years ago built by last owner. Artistic Display of lady Marys dress.

Well we’ll be back!
