After a quick shower and a visit to Morrisons for supplies we packed up the caravan and set off at about 11.30 for Nunnington Hall, a beautiful National Trust manor house, near Helmsley. We parked the caravan in the coach slot, enjoyed a picnic lunch and then went round the house and gardens which were linked with Henry 8th: William Parr, Catherine Parrs brother, lived there. There was a fun question trail to answer as well.

The house itself was a maze of rooms that had been added to over the years but still some of the old house remained. The bedrooms were beautifully furnished with lots of the Fifes’ original furniture and even hand-made bedspreads and paintings. The old tapestries on the wall had been restored and a short film explained how. There were also quirky features like the little window above the door to let light into the corridor which was too dark!

There was also an intriguing collection of miniature rooms, the Carlisle Collection, which were very detailed and beautiful.

Then we continued on to Thirsk and our next camping and caravan club site at £10 a night! Really just a big field with a toilet and water. We managed to set up just in time to be ready for a few drops of rain
