Pilgrims, butterflies and foiegras at Rocamadour.

After a wet drive to Rocamadour yesterday we arrived at a lovely campsite on la Ferme des Campagnes and set up camp. So today we set off on the short walk to Rocamadour by a little track from the campsite. Accompanied by beautiful blue butterflies and flowers called Vetch we soon arrived at the top of Rocamadour for some amazing views.

A quick look at the castle but we had no 2 euro pieces to get on to the ramparts. Then on to the Chemin de Croix.

So glad we started at the top even though that was the 12th station. After a lovely walk down in the trees we arrived at the citadel with all its chapels and churches that pilgrims come from afar to. The legend is that the remains of St Amadour were found in 1166 who was a close friend of Jesus.

The crypt

So many beautiful views and old buildings and archways many from around 12 th century.

And so along the main Street and up to the Hospitalet where the pilgrims arrived first and were helped back to full health before entering the holy citadel.

Back to the caravan for a rest before the tour at 5 pm of the farm which was primarily raising ducks for foiegras, but also oak trees for truffles, a vineyard and walnuts for walnut oil. Unfortunately due to bird flu they had no ducks as they had had to slaughter 3000. The farm was a small one so raised about 10000 ducks a year but treated them well where as the industrial farms killed 10,000 a day! And of course the tour finished with a lovely tasting of foiegras, pate, magret and three different wines.
